L'huissier de justice

The job of bailiff involves going to people's homes, to their front doors... to enforce a judicial ruling. It's a job of social relations that requires both courage and tact. Stéphane Cosme followed one of them, Madame Bouvet, as she carried out her work.

Well, so here we are arriving in the rain at a building in the 1st Disctrict. It's a very beautiful building. As for me, I'm interested in the maid's chamber which is on the 6th floor. The owner - and therefore the client - bought a flat. And with that flat came a maid's chamber. It turns out that the maid's chamber was occupied by someone who didn't open the door to him and the owner doesn't know who it is atall. So I was nominated by the court to go and find out who was occupying the maid's chamber, the identity of the occupant, how long they've been there for and why, and to establish above all why he's there and how he got in there in the first place. So my first contact is obviously the guardian because I'm lucky that there is a guardian in the building, that's precious, so it's certainly the guardian who'll give me the first indications.

-Yes... but I am Maître Bouvet, bailiff. I've been nominated by the court with regard to the occupation of a room on the sixth floor. Room number 8.

- I, I don't know the name of the person. They told me he was pretty ill, that he was a person who was...

Bon, alors là on arrive sous la pluie dans un immeuble dans le premier arrondissement. C'est un très bel immeuble. Moi, je m'intéresse à une chambre de bonne qui se situe au sixième étage. Le propriétaire - et le client, donc - a acheté un appartement. Et avec cet appartement allait une chambre de bonne. Il s'avère qu'il a découvert que la chambre de bonne était occupée par quelqu'un qui ne lui ouvre pas la porte et il sait pas du tout qui c'est. Donc j'ai été nommée par le tribunal pour aller découvrir qui occupait cette chambre de bonne, l'identité de l'occupant, depuis quand et comment et pourquoi, et savoir surtout pourquoi il était là et comment il était rentré à l'origine. Donc mon premier contact c'est bien évidemment la gardienne puisque j'ai la chance d'avoir une gardienne dans l'immeuble et c'est précieux, et donc c'est la gardienne qui va certainement me donner le premier renseignement.

-Bonjour Madame.

- Oui... mais je suis Maître Bouvet, huissier. J'ai été nommée par le tribunal pour l'occupation d'une chambre au sixième étage. La chambre numéro 8.

- Moi, je connais pas le nom de la personne. Ils m'ont dit qu'il était assez malade, que c'était une personne qui était...

- Mais il a même pas de quittance d'électricité?

- Rien, rien, rien, rien, rien!

- Alors, sixième tout au bout du couloir.

- Vous voulez que je monte avec vous?

- Bon, si vous êtes là, il nous ouvrira peut-être plus facilement la porte.

- Je vais monter avec vous.

- Merci, Madame.

- Au bout du couloir! Il y a même l'ascenseur.

- Allez-y!
